The Western Screech-Owl is a smaller owl with a dark bill, bright yellow eyes and tufts of hair on the top of its head which are commonly mistaken for ears. There are two forms of the Western Screech-Owl. The more common type is gray, while the more rare type is a reddish color and is seen mostly in the northwest United States.

This species of bird is not usualy attractable with feeders. We have included it on our list because of the significant number of these birds in our area.
